I recently traveled to Pittsburgh for a weekend of solitude and catching up on work (my Macbook Pro is my 4th child, you see) and general relaxation. And when I want to do this, I often look to ‘the homestead’ – – the home at which I grew up. It is in a rural area just outside of Pittsburgh, and it is my little slice of heaven. I had no agenda for the weekend…so when one of my dearest friends called me to see if I’d be up for photographing her sister’s newborn baby boy, I jumped at the opportunity. It was a little stressful at first, not having my beanbag, stash of blankets and my big huge window…but that’s ok…I sometimes need a little reminder of how my photography, my ‘style’ (if I have one) is all about “keepin’ it real”. So that’s what we did. I showcased this little guy…and his 6 day old newborn goodness, in a very real, very non-staged way. Maybe I’ll just ditch all of those blankets and beanbags for good…because I can’t think of any better way to photograph a newborn.
wow. absolutely beautiful.
